I bought one of these for its advertised purpose and installed it on the utility closet door in my kitchen, and like it. I have limited entryway space with no room for a cabinet or shelves to land on, i.e. put down my purse, keys, incoming mail, and to stage for launch, i.e. outgoing mail, etc. When I come into my kitchen, the utility closet is immediately on my left, so I got a second unit and installed it on the front of the door. It works great! My purse easily goes in one of the larger baskets, and the other various baskets are great for mail and so forth. I even have a cup with pens, a notepad, a small tissue box, etc., arranged in the baskets. The industrial look goes well with my contemporary eclectic style and with the brushed metal finishes on my appliances and cabinet hardware. Eventually, I'll weave in or custom cut/sew inserts to line some of the bins to prevent small stuff from falling through, plus to bring in some of the accents colours of my decor. I'm very satisfied!
Installation Hint #1: The top and bottom brackets are too wide for my interior hollow core door. I saw the other review suggesting pinching the bracket but I wanted more contact for greater stability. I solved it by stacking together a few 3" adhesive-backed felt furniture foot pads and jamming them between the door and the brackets on the front of the door. (Had to be on front so the door could close.) I chose the lightest colour available - beige - and even though the door is white, I think it looks fine because the colour picks up on various wood tones in the floor and furniture. However, I think some white fabric paint could be used to hide them, if you prefer.
Installation Hint #2: I found it easier to hang a basket across each joint in the vertical rails as I assembled the unit. It makes the whole structure more stable and makes it easy to place the bottom brackets correctly so the unit hangs straight.
Installation Hint #3: When I started hanging the second unit, my door wouldn't close anymore. I noticed that the angle between the top and side of the upper brackets was greater than 90 degrees, causing the top of the bracket to not sit flush with the top of the door. The metal was soft enough that I was able to bend the brackets to a 90 degree angle and - voila - problem solved.
I have just installed this uni and have to fill it it seems like it will fit my needs.
My hint is to squeeze the bottom and top brackets to fit tightly on the door being used. This will make the unit much sturdier and eliminate the 'flopping' when the door is moved.
Looks very good! You won't be disappointed with this product and it is very easy to install!
Display should include that the baskets are included in the price. Really happy with this organizer. Now looking for a similar door organizer, but one where I can chose the size of baskets.
